How free entertainment works in Benidorm
The free-entry model is built into the entire resort. Bars compete for trade by booking the best tribute acts, comedians and live bands they can afford, then earn it back through drink sales. For you it means an unbeatable formula: a proper tribute show, live band or comedy night, with no cover charge, no ticket and no booking — and a cold drink in your hand for the price of a UK pint.
The "compulsory consumption" rule, explained
Free entry in Benidorm comes with one unwritten rule: you buy a drink. Spanish bars call it consumición obligatoria — compulsory consumption — and it is how the show pays for itself. Nobody charges at the door, but staff will take an order soon after you sit down, and you should keep a drink in front of you while the act is on. A soft drink or a coffee counts. Some bars with headline acts or front tables set a minimum spend at peak times, and the handful of genuinely ticketed venues — Benidorm Palace above all — are marked as such in the listings.
Best free venues by area
- The Strip (Calle Gerona): Morgan Tavern, The Palladium, Jail Rock, Talk of the Coast, Rockerfellas — see the Calle Gerona area guide.
- Rincón de Loix: The Red Lion 2, Tropical Bar, Sinatras, Philippines 10, Uncle Peds — see the Rincón de Loix guide.
- The Square (Avenida de Mallorca): Cafe Benidorm and Chaplins for late shows.
- Old Town: acoustic sets and cabaret bars around the squares — see the Old Town guide.
Where to find the best free shows tonight
The Rincón de Loix — the British strip — is the densest concentration of free entertainment in Benidorm. Calle Gerona alone runs dozens of tribute and cabaret shows every night. The Levante seafront is the best bet if you want open-air free music with a sea view, while the Old Town offers free acoustic singers and Spanish guitar duos in narrow squares.
Best free tribute acts tonight
Tribute nights are the backbone of Benidorm's free entertainment scene. On a typical evening you'll find tributes to ABBA, Queen, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Adele, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Olly Murs, Take That and Elvis — all free walk-in, all starting between 8pm and 10pm.
Tips for getting the most out of a free night out
- Arrive 30 minutes before the headline act for the best seats.
- Most venues take cards, but smaller bars still prefer cash.
- Spanish drink measures are generous — pace yourself.
- Many bars run two acts a night; the second set is usually quieter and easier to find a table for.
- Look out for "drink offer" deals on flyers handed out on the strip — these are stacked on top of an already free show.
