Quick answer: Benidorm has no mainline Renfe train station. Rail travellers take a high-speed train to Alicante, about 2 hours 20–35 minutes from Madrid, then the TRAM light railway (line L1, about 72 minutes) or an ALSA bus to Benidorm. From Valencia, a direct ALSA coach is usually quicker than the train. Benidorm's TRAM stations link it to Alicante, Altea, Calpe and Dénia.
Does Benidorm have a train station?
Not a mainline one. Benidorm is served by the TRAM d'Alacant, a light-rail network run by FGV, the Valencian regional railway. Its stops in town are Benidorm (Avenida Beniardà), Benidorm Intermodal by the bus station, and Terra Mítica. Line L1 runs south to Alicante; line L9 runs north to Altea, Calpe and Dénia (our day trips guide).

Alicante station to Benidorm
Trains arrive at Alicante Terminal (the ADIF station). To take the TRAM, walk 10–15 minutes to the Luceros stop and board line L1 to Benidorm. Trams leave Alicante for Benidorm every 30 minutes and the ride takes about 72 minutes. From 1 October 2026 a single costs up to €4, depending on zones; under-14s travel free until 31 December 2026.
If you have heavy bags, the ALSA bus from Alicante bus station is quicker (about 40–45 minutes) and has luggage holds. A taxi is the easiest option late at night; see Benidorm taxis.
From Valencia
The direct ALSA coach from Valencia bus station to Benidorm takes about 1 hour 45 minutes and runs about hourly. By rail, you would take a Renfe train from Valencia Joaquín Sorolla to Alicante, then the TRAM back up the coast, which takes 3 hours or more in total (Everyrail). For most people, the coach wins. From the rest of Europe
You can reach Spain by train from France, then change in Barcelona, Madrid or Valencia for Alicante. It is a long journey, often two days with an overnight stop, but it avoids flying. Plan the Spanish legs on renfe.com and the TRAM leg on the TRAM d'Alacant website.
Tips
Buy TRAM tickets at the station machines; keep your ticket until you exit, as some stations are gated.
Allow at least 30 minutes to change between the Renfe station and the TRAM in Alicante.
Trams stop running at night, so check the last departure if your train arrives late.
