Accessible Benidorm: a wheelchair user's guide

Updated 15/10/2026 by the onbenidorm team · Details checked October 2026

Benidorm is well set up for wheelchair users and won the Fitur 4all award for most inclusive national destination in 2024. Two flat seafront promenades, three staffed assisted-bathing points with amphibious chairs (09:30–18:30 from June to September), 14 adapted taxis, scooter and wheelchair hire, and a 7 km accessible route in Serra Gelada make it workable for most wheelchair users.

    Is Benidorm wheelchair friendly?

Yes: the seafront, most of the hotel zone and the beach access points are level, and the council has spent two decades adapting the resort. In January 2024 Benidorm won the Inclusive National Destination category at the first Fitur 4all Awards, and by May 2024 a hundred businesses, including 62 hotels, the tourist bus and the Rincón de Loix tourist office, held the Tur4all accessibility badge.

The council lists ramps, lowered kerbs, glass panels replacing railings at the castle viewpoint and Tossal de La Cala, braille maps and audio guides. Use this page alongside our things to do in Benidorm hub; older visitors will also find Benidorm for over-60s useful.

    Assisted bathing and accessible beaches

Benidorm runs three staffed accessible points where trained staff transfer you to an amphibious chair and go into the sea with you. In 2024 they helped 18,563 people, and the facilities hold UNE 170001 universal accessibility certification.

Each point has an adapted toilet and changing room with a hose, shade, windbreaks, amphibious crutches and seasonal lifeguards. Parque de Elche also has chairs set in the water, Levante gained a hoist for wheelchair transfers in 2024, and an XXL amphibious chair takes users up to 220 kg.

You need a disability certificate or card, and anyone who needs care must come with an adult companion. There is no bathing under a yellow or jellyfish flag. Groups should book ahead on 966 815 467. Our Benidorm beaches guide covers flags and lifeguards in more detail.

    • Summer (1 June to 30 September): 09:30–18:30 at all three points.
    • Rest of the year: 10:30–14:30, closed for maintenance from 15 January to 14 February.
    • All three points are smoke-free areas under an agreement with the Spanish cancer charity AECC.

    Promenades, viewpoints and accessible walks

The Levante and Poniente promenades are the easiest places to roll for long distances, with the Old Town headland between them. Levante runs past Levante beach towards the Rincón de Loix, and Poniente past Poniente beach to La Cala.

The castle viewpoint (Mirador El Castillo) in the Old Town is on Tur4all's list of accessible experiences, as is the Boca del Calvari museum nearby. The Old Town streets climb gently.

Serra Gelada accessible and inclusive route

Visit Benidorm's accessible route runs about 7 km from Plaza del Castell along Levante, past the Almadrava and Tío Ximo coves to the Punta del Cavall tower. It is rated low difficulty, takes three to four hours in full, and has clear signs, benches and an audio guide. See our Serra Gelada walks guide for the harder trails to avoid.

    Accessible taxis, buses and coaches

Benidorm had 14 adapted taxis in early 2025, just over 6% of the fleet, each carrying four passengers plus one wheelchair user. The council proposed converting 11 more to reach 25; a taxi drivers' association said waits for an adapted taxi could reach an hour at peak times, so book well ahead for fixed times such as airport runs.

Book through the numbers on our Benidorm taxi phone number and Radio Taxi Benidorm pages and say you need an adapted vehicle (taxi adaptado).

For groups, Visit Benidorm lists Grupo Avanza, whose coaches of 24 to 71 seats are fully adapted for people with reduced mobility (info.benidorm@avanzagrupo.com, +34 965 854 322). The open-top bus tour holds the Tur4all badge. For fares on urban buses and the TRAM, see getting around Benidorm.

    Mobility scooter and wheelchair hire

Visit Benidorm lists two hire firms, both near the Rincón de Loix and Levante hotels. See also our mobility scooter hire guide.

    • Amigo 24: electric scooters and wheelchairs, Avenida de l'Almirall Bernat de Sarrià 6, +34 966 831 690.
    • Easyhire: scooters, Calle Lepanto 17 (next to Hotel Venus) and Calle Jaén 4 (opposite Hotel Castilla), +34 966 445 812.

    Accessible attractions and toilets

Tur4all's guide to accessible experiences in Benidorm includes all four big parks, Terra Mítica, Aqualandia, Mundomar and Terra Natura, plus Benidorm Palace, the city tour bus and Aquascope boat trips. Each links to a report on access, toilets and parking.

The tourist offices at Tourist Info Centro and the Rincón de Loix, and the SATE police office for foreign tourists, have adapted counters, hearing loops and the SVisual sign-language video app.

The council opened a new public toilet on Paseo de Colón in April 2026 that is accessible to people with reduced mobility and has tactile paving, and refurbished the modules on Avenida Xixo and near Calle Murcia and Calle Ametlla de Mar. The adapted toilets at the three beach points are other reliable stops.

    Choosing an accessible hotel

Benidorm publishes a hotel accessibility guide (Hoteles4all) covering physical, visual, hearing and cognitive access, and 62 hotels held the Tur4all badge in 2024. Even so, check the details yourself before paying a deposit.

    • Ask for the room's door width, whether the shower is level-access, and whether grab rails and a shower seat are fitted.
    • Ask whether the pool has a hoist and whether the restaurant, terrace and entertainment room are step-free.
    • If you are driving, ask about adapted parking and whether the hotel is inside the low-emission zone; see parking in Benidorm.
    • Compare areas in where to stay in Benidorm and browse hotels in Benidorm.

Accessible Benidorm: a wheelchair user's guide — FAQs

Can wheelchair users swim in the sea in Benidorm?

Yes. Three staffed points, on Levante at Calle Murcia and on Poniente at Vicente Llorca and Parque de Elche, provide amphibious chairs and staff who go into the water with you. They open 09:30–18:30 from June to September and 10:30–14:30 the rest of the year. Bring a disability certificate.

Do I need to book the assisted bathing service?

Individuals are served in order of arrival, one chair per person with a disability. Groups and organisations should book in advance with the beaches department on 966 815 467 so a point does not become overcrowded. Bathing time depends on demand and staff numbers.

Are there wheelchair-accessible taxis in Benidorm?

Yes, 14 adapted taxis as of early 2025, each taking four passengers and one wheelchair user, with a council plan to raise the number to 25. Demand is high in peak season, so book well ahead and ask specifically for a taxi adaptado.

    Is Benidorm flat for wheelchairs?

The Levante and Poniente promenades and most of the hotel zone are flat, with ramps and lowered kerbs throughout. The Old Town climbs to the castle viewpoint, and the Serra Gelada trails are steep except the accessible route, which has benches and an audio guide.

Where can I hire a wheelchair or mobility scooter in Benidorm?

Visit Benidorm lists Amigo 24 on Avenida de l'Almirall Bernat de Sarrià (+34 966 831 690), which hires electric scooters and wheelchairs, and Easyhire on Calle Lepanto and Calle Jaén (+34 966 445 812). Book ahead in winter and ask about hotel delivery.

Has Benidorm won an accessibility award?

Yes. In January 2024 Benidorm won the Inclusive National Destination category at the first Fitur 4all Awards in Madrid. In January 2025 it also became the first destination certified by AENOR for its commitment to older people, citing its accessible beaches among other measures.
