The Strip (Calle Gerona), Benidorm

Calle Gerona is the Strip — the short, packed street in the New Town that has more show bars per metre than anywhere else in Benidorm. It runs inland from near Levante beach, and on a summer night it is wall-to-wall tributes, comedians, cabaret and karaoke, with promoters on every corner.

The landmarks are within a minute of each other: the Morgan Tavern with its pirate-ship front (the real Neptune's from ITV's Benidorm), the Palladium for comedy and late adult cabaret, Jail Rock for rock tributes, Talk of the Coast for polished tribute shows, Rockerfellas for late comedy and the Western Saloon for a country-and-rock night.

Afternoons are for sport and karaoke; the stage shows start around 20:00 and run in sets until the early hours. Entry is free almost everywhere, and the drinks are cheap enough that bar-hopping between acts is the whole point. The atmosphere is louder and more raucous than the Rincón de Loix, with stag and hen parties a big part of the crowd at weekends.

Staying on or just off Gerona puts you in the heart of it; light sleepers should choose a room at the back or a little further away.
