Cala de Finestrat: Benidorm's Neighbouring Beach

Updated October 2026 by the onbenidorm team

Quick answer: Cala de Finestrat is a Blue Flag cove about 3 km south-west of central Benidorm, just past the end of Poniente beach and the Tossal de la Cala headland. It belongs to the town of Finestrat, not Benidorm. The sandy beach is about 300 m long, sheltered, lined with bars and restaurants, and calmer than Levante or Poniente. Local buses run from Benidorm in about 10–20 minutes, and a taxi costs around €12–15.

The cove is sheltered by cliffs, so the water is often calmer than on the open beaches, which suits families and swimmers. It hosts what is billed as Spain's oldest beach volleyball tournament every 15 August.

    Tossal de la Cala viewpoint

The Tossal de la Cala is the small hill between Poniente and the cove. On top is an Iberian settlement from the 3rd to 1st centuries BC, later used by the Romans, and one of the best viewpoints over Benidorm's skyline. It is a short, steep climb from the southern end of Poniente. Go at sunset.

    Coastal walk to Villajoyosa

A marked coastal path runs south from Cala de Finestrat along an undeveloped stretch of coast to the Torre de l'Aguiló watchtower and El Torres beach in Villajoyosa, about 10.5 km return (Link Alicante). Take water and sun cream: there is little shade. For the town itself, see our Villajoyosa guide.

    Eating and drinking

The promenade behind the beach is lined with restaurants, cafés and bars, many with sea views, and the area stays lively on summer evenings. It is quieter and more Spanish than the Rincón de Loix. For shows, head back into Benidorm; see what's on tonight.
