How Benidorm's tribute scene works

Benidorm has more tribute acts per square mile than anywhere in Europe, and almost all of them play in bars rather than theatres. The model is simple: entry is free, and in return the bar expects you to buy drinks while the act is on. Staff will usually take an order soon after you sit down, and it is good form to keep a drink in front of you for the set. That is why a night of three or four headline tributes can cost no more than the round you would buy anyway.

Most acts play 45 minutes to an hour, often in two halves, and many bars run two or three different acts a night. Early shows from around 20:00 tend to be family-friendly singers and pop tributes; the big-name tributes usually go on between 21:00 and 23:00; and after midnight the Square and parts of Calle Gerona switch to party acts, comedy and adult cabaret. If you want a particular act, check the time on this page and arrive half an hour early at weekends.

The season never really stops. The fullest programmes run from Easter until the end of October, with another peak over Christmas and New Year. In January and February some bars close for refurbishment or holidays, and the ones that stay open tend to book their resident acts rather than touring shows. Times are listed exactly as the venues give them, in Spanish time — an hour ahead of the UK. Line-ups do change at short notice, especially when an act is ill or a venue swaps nights, so if you are travelling across town for one show, it is worth checking the venue's page on the day.
