The Albir lighthouse walk
The walk to the Faro de l'Albir is one of the easiest and most rewarding on the coast:
Distance and time: about 5 km return, roughly 2 hours, or 45 minutes each way (Weather2Travel).
Surface: a paved former service road with gentle gradients, suitable for pushchairs and powered wheelchairs (View from La Vila).
Start: the car park on Camí Vell del Far, about 2 km from the lighthouse; cars must stop there.
At the top: sheer cliffs about 300 ft (90 m) above the sea, the ruins of a 16th-century watchtower and, on open days, a small visitor space in the lighthouse.
The second half has little shade, so take water and go early or late in summer. Our Serra Gelada walks guide covers the routes on the Benidorm side.
The beach and the Walk of Fame
Albir's beach, Platja del Racó de l'Albir, is a Blue Flag pebble beach with clear water, good for snorkelling (see our diving guide). Behind it runs the Paseo de las Estrellas, a palm-lined promenade with stars set into the paving for winners of the l'Alfàs del Pi Film Festival, held each July. Bars and restaurants line the promenade.
Combine Albir with Altea
Altea is a 20-minute walk north along the seafront from Albir, or a short TRAM ride. A good day out is the lighthouse in the morning, lunch in Albir, then sunset in Altea's old town. See our Benidorm to Altea guide.
When to go
Spring and autumn are ideal for the walk. Albir's main fiestas take over the Parque de los Eucaliptos in late August, with parades, night-time fireworks and live music.
