About Whitney Houston
Whitney Houston was an American pop and R&B singer celebrated for her range, control and gospel-rooted vocal power.
‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’, ‘Greatest Love of All’, ‘How Will I Know’ and her recording of ‘I Will Always Love You’ are among her defining performances.
Houston grew up around gospel and soul music; her mother Cissy Houston was a singer and her cousin Dionne Warwick was already a star. Her version of Dolly Parton's ‘I Will Always Love You’ for The Bodyguard became inseparable from the film. The control in her quiet opening and the power of the later vocal rise explain why it remains such a demanding tribute song.
