January is Benidorm's quiet secret. With average highs of 17°C, six hours of daily sun and one of the driest winters in mainland Europe, it's the closest genuine winter-sun destination to the UK — and the cheapest week of the year to visit.
You won't be swimming in the sea, but you'll be walking the promenade in a T-shirt at lunchtime, drinking wine outside at 5pm and paying half of August's prices for the privilege.
What was January 2025 actually like in Benidorm?
January 2025 was on the milder side of normal — a run of blue-sky days in the second week pushed afternoons up to 20–22°C, with several UK visitors reporting T-shirt weather on the promenade. A short Atlantic front on the 18th–20th brought the month's only real rain (around 15mm over two days) before high pressure rebuilt for a warm final week.

Benidorm January — the deeper picture
The Sierra Helada mountain range shields Benidorm from the northerly winds that chill the rest of the Spanish coast in winter. That microclimate is why the resort was originally chosen for long-stay pensioner tourism in the 1970s — the numbers still hold: Benidorm records more January sunshine hours than Malaga, Malta or the Algarve.
