Benidorm for Over-60s

Updated 12/10/2026 by the onbenidorm team · Details checked October 2026

Benidorm suits over-60s well: the promenades are flat, three beach points offer assisted bathing (09:30–18:30 in summer, disability certificate required), mobility scooters can be hired from Amigo 24 and Easyhire, and afternoon shows run in the cabaret bars. Winters average 17°C highs, though the local senior bus discount is for registered residents only, not tourists.

    Is Benidorm good for over-60s?

Yes: Benidorm is compact and flat along the seafront, has accessible beaches with trained staff, and offers daytime entertainment most days of the year.

Long winter stays are common, and the town's mix of cafés, show bars and seafront walks suits a slower pace. For the wider picture, see our things to do in Benidorm guide; this page covers the practical details for older visitors.

    Accessible beaches and assisted bathing

Benidorm runs three assisted-bathing points where staff help you into an amphibious chair and stay with you in the water.

Each point has three adult amphibious chairs and one child chair, amphibious crutches, a ramp to the sea, and an adapted toilet and changing room. You need a disability certificate and must come with a companion, and the service does not run under a yellow flag. Call the beaches department on 966 815 467.

Summer hours (1 June to 30 September) are 09:30–18:30. The council's accessible-beach plan gives winter hours of 10:30–14:30 with no service from 15 January to 14 February; check the current winter timetable by phone.

Getting around: scooters, buses and taxis

Mobility scooters are easy to hire in Benidorm, and the buses are cheap, but the senior discount card is not available to tourists.

    • Amigo 24: Avenida Almirall Bernat de Sarrià 6, tel. +34 966 831 690.
    • Easyhire: Calle Lepanto 17 and Calle Jaén 4, tel. +34 966 445 812.
    • More options in our mobility scooter hire guide.
    • Urban buses cost €1.60 a single; tourist passes are €12 for 24 hours, €24 for 72 hours and €48 for 7 days.
    • Benidorm's Tarjeta Ciudadana, with its Oro rate for over-65s, is for registered residents (empadronados) only.
    • Visit Benidorm lists Grupo Avanza for adapted coaches; for door-to-door trips see Benidorm taxis.

    Flat and gentle walks

The easiest walking is along the Levante and Poniente promenades, and Serra Gelada has a route designed for people with reduced mobility.

    Accessible Serra Gelada route

This 7 km route runs from Plaza del Castell along Levante, past the Almadrava and Tío Ximo coves to the Punta del Cavall tower. It is rated low difficulty, takes 3–4 hours in full, and has clear signs, benches and an audio guide. You can walk just part of it and turn back.

    Torre de les Caletes

About 4 km return from the end of Calle Sierra Dorada in the Rincón de Loix, taking about 1.5 hours. It is rated easy to moderate and the path is good enough for pushchairs as far as the 17th-century watchtower, so it suits most steady walkers. There are no water fountains.

    The castle viewpoint

The Balcón del Mediterráneo in the Old Town has sea views both ways. The Old Town streets climb a little, so take it slowly, and the free Boca del Calvari museum (daily from 12:00) is close by.

    Afternoon entertainment

Benidorm's entertainment does not wait for the evening: many bars run singers, tribute acts, bingo and karaoke from the afternoon.

If you prefer a big night with dinner, Benidorm Palace runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with doors at 20:00. Browse tribute acts in Benidorm to find your favourite artist.

    Senior prices at the parks

Most Benidorm parks charge seniors the same as children, usually from age 65; Terra Natura's senior rate starts at 60.

    • Compare the parks in our Benidorm theme parks guide.
    • In Alicante, the lift up to Santa Bárbara Castle is free for pensioners (€2.70 one way otherwise).

Winter stays and the Imserso season

Benidorm is a popular winter base for older visitors, with average highs of about 17–18°C and 5–6 hours of sun a day from December to February.

Winter is also when Spain's state-subsidised Imserso senior holidays fill many hotels. In 2025–26 the first trips left on 19 October, with October, May and June counted as high season, which implies a season running roughly from October to June. Benidorm's share of the region's Imserso places has fallen from about 80% to below half. Dates for 2026–27 had not been confirmed when we checked.

Some British bars close for a few weeks in January and February; see bars closed for winter and our Benidorm in winter guide.

    Health and practical tips

Visit Benidorm lists two private hospitals in town, Hospital Clínica Benidorm and Hospital IMED Levante, which are useful to know before you need them.

Pack sun protection even in winter, bring enough of any regular medication, and remember that Spanish time is one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland. For accommodation close to the flat seafront, see hotels in Benidorm, and for a car-free outing read Benidorm with kids and free things to do in Benidorm, as many ideas suit grandparents too.

    Benidorm for Over-60s — FAQs

Can tourists get a bus discount in Benidorm?

No. Benidorm's Tarjeta Ciudadana gives 10–66% off urban buses, including an Oro rate for over-65s, but only for registered residents (empadronados). Visitors pay €1.60 for a single, or can buy a tourist pass at €12 for 24 hours, €24 for 72 hours or €48 for seven days.

How does assisted bathing work in Benidorm?

At three beach points (Levante at Calle Murcia, and Poniente at Avenida Mont Benidorm and Parque de Elche) trained staff transfer you into an amphibious chair and go into the sea with you. You need a disability certificate and a companion. Summer hours are 09:30–18:30; call 966 815 467 to check winter times.

Where can I hire a mobility scooter in Benidorm?

Visit Benidorm lists Amigo 24 at Avenida Almirall Bernat de Sarrià 6 (+34 966 831 690) and Easyhire at Calle Lepanto 17 and Calle Jaén 4 (+34 966 445 812). Book ahead in winter, when demand from long-stay visitors is high, and ask about delivery to your hotel.

Is Benidorm busy with Spanish pensioners in winter?

Yes, Imserso holidays bring Spanish pensioners from about October to June, with October, May and June as the peak months in 2025–26. Benidorm's share of these places has fallen to below half of the region's total, but you will still notice coach groups in many hotels outside summer.

Are there senior discounts at Benidorm theme parks?

Yes. Terra Mítica and Aqualandia charge over-65s the junior price: €35 at the gate or €30 online in Terra Mítica's low season, and €33 or €28 at Aqualandia. Mundomar's senior gate price is listed at €26, and Terra Natura's senior rate starts at age 60, from about €27.

Is Benidorm flat enough for walking?

The Levante and Poniente seafront promenades are flat and long, and most of the Rincón de Loix and the hotel zone is level. The Old Town climbs gently to the castle viewpoint, and the Serra Gelada trails are hillier, apart from the accessible route with benches and the Torre de les Caletes path.
