    Poniente Beach at a glance

Poniente is the calmer of Benidorm's two big beaches and the better pick for families who want space. It shares Blue Flag status for 2026 with Levante, as covered in our Benidorm beaches guide.

Spain's tourism board gives it as about 3,200 m long and 80 m wide, with golden sand and a palm-lined promenade. An unofficial guide based on council data gives 3,100 m by 74 m. Either way, it is the widest and longest stretch of sand in town.

The Club Náutico, which also held a Blue Flag in 2025, is about 100 m away at the Old Town end. The beach also has a designated diving zone.

    Sunsets on Poniente

Poniente faces west, so it keeps the sun until sunset in winter and until after 8 pm in summer, according to Visit Benidorm. That makes it the beach for a late-afternoon swim and an evening walk along the promenade.

For a higher view, the Tossal de la Cala hill at the La Cala end looks out over Poniente and the Cala de Finestrat. An easy family walk of about 2.5 km return, roughly an hour, starts at the beginning of Paseo de Poniente. It is not suitable for pushchairs.

At the other end, the Old Town headland and its Balcón del Mediterráneo viewpoint, with four cannons, is another popular sunset spot.

    Services and facilities

Poniente has fewer hire loungers than Levante but more for children. Spain's tourism board lists toilets, footbaths and a children's area.

    Poniente for families

With six playgrounds, twelve sports areas and a 20 m zip line for children aged 6 to 14, Poniente has more for children than any other Benidorm beach, according to the unofficial count. Visit Benidorm's family page confirms play areas, lifeguards and pushchair access on both main beaches.

The wide sand means you are less likely to be packed in next to other groups in August. The council's play area list also includes municipal playgrounds on Poniente and at La Cala. For more ideas, see our Benidorm with kids guide.

    Accessible bathing on Poniente

Poniente has two of Benidorm's three accessible bathing points, at Parque de Elche (near the Old Town end) and at Av. Mont Benidorm (near La Cala). In summer 2026 both ran from 09:30 to 18:30 with three lifeguards each.

Each point has amphibious chairs for adults and children, crutches, a walkway to the sea and an adapted changing room and toilet, according to the council's accessible beaches plan. Both areas have been voluntary smoke-free spaces since 2024.

Around Poniente: the promenade and Parque de Elche

Parque de Elche, beside the accessible point at the Old Town end, hosts Benidorm's Christmas market in December and a medieval market over one May weekend. Our Benidorm outdoor markets guide covers the regular markets.

The Benidorm open-top bus tour line 30 runs from the Rincón de Loix to Cala de Finestrat via Parque de Elche and the Poniente promenade, which is a relaxed way to see the whole beach. The Poniente area guide covers places to eat and drink nearby, and the Old Town is a short walk away for tapas and nightlife.
