About Aurrera Bar (Pintxos Aurrera)
Aurrera Bar, also known as Pintxos Aurrera, has served Basque pintxos and tapas in Benidorm's Old Town since 1991.
Aurrera Bar — full name Pintxos Aurrera — is a family-run Basque-style pintxos bar in the Old Town of Benidorm, on the famous Tapas Alley (Calle Santo Domingo). Established in 1991, it is one of the longest-running independent tapas bars in the centre and consistently rated among the very best places to eat in Benidorm by both locals and visiting food writers. The format is classic northern Spanish pintxos. The bar top is lined with slices of crusty bread topped with everything from Spanish tortilla and tuna with piquillo peppers to Iberico ham, salt cod brandade, prawns in garlic, blue cheese with walnuts, and seasonal specials chalked up on a board behind the bar. You order at the counter or simply help yourself from the bar, and the staff count the cocktail sticks at the end to total your bill. It is fast, sociable and refreshingly low-tech. Drinks are kept Spanish — cana and pint-sized beers, glasses of rioja and ribera del duero, txakoli poured from height in the Basque tradition, vermouth on tap, and tinto de verano. There is a small but well-chosen list of bottled wines if you want to stay for a longer sit-down. Prices are honest: most pintxos sit between EUR 1.50 and EUR 3, hot specials from around EUR 4, and a glass of wine rarely tops EUR 3. The vibe is busy, narrow and unmistakably Old Town — tiled walls, hams hanging from the ceiling, locals at the bar discussing the football, visitors leaning into the crowd to grab the next plate. You can stand at the bar, perch at a tall stool or, if you are lucky, snag one of the few tables outside on Tapas Alley. It's the best possible introduction to genuine Spanish bar culture in Benidorm and the natural first stop on a self-guided Old Town tapas crawl.

- What is Aurrera Bar known for?
- It is one of the original Basque-style pintxos bars in Benidorm Old Town, established in 1991, famous for the spread of small bites lined up along the bar — tortilla, jamon, prawns, salt cod, peppers — served with cold cana, rioja and txakoli.

- Is Aurrera Bar family-friendly?
- Children are welcome and pintxos are a great way to let kids try lots of different small bites. The bar is small and gets very busy in the evening, so families tend to visit at lunch or in the early evening.
